Energy Dissipation Systems
A three-story reinforced concrete frame structure with a “Y” shaped plan view and 10m long beam spans. It covers a total area of 8,400m², including a 3,000m² basement. This building features the first application in Cyprus of a passive energy dissipation system, using the Scissor Jack viscous damper bracing assembly. This building represented Cyprus in the 2006 Ludwig von Misses Architectural awards.
The specific arrangement of the Scissor Jack device system in the COC building has been presented as an example by many academics in relevant conferences and seminars.
